Click to View Larger...The Doll Squad (1973) - Plot (Wikipedia): CIA operative Connolly assigns Sabrina, the leader of a group of five shapely female operatives individually selected by a computer. Code named the Doll Squad, they thwart the efforts of a mad man who formerly worked alongside Sabrina as a fellow CIA agent who has become an entrepreneur to overthrow world governments. His plan is to release rats infected with bubonic plague.

The movie is full of stock footage, low-budget special effects, and badly staged and filmed action scenes. Yet, somehow it's not a horrible movie. It's definitely a "bad" movie, but it's the type you can watch, have a few laughs, and still be able to face yourself in the mirror the next morning. That's right ladies, it's just like a date with yours truly. Except the mirror part.

The women are, with the exception of Francine York, barely attractive, none show any nudity, and they couldn't act their way out of a feminine hygiene commercial. The cast, with the exception of Michael Ansara, Francine York, and Tura Santana are unknowns, and pretty much continued in that manner for the rest of their "careers".

Michael Ansara was best known for his role as "Cochise" in the American television series "Broken Arrow", (Every time Ansara would pop up in a movie or television show, my Dad would turn to me and say "You know, he was Cochise in Broken Arrow!" It became a running joke with him and I.) He also appeared in Star Trek as "Kang", and later in his career did voice acting in video games and cartoons. He was married for 16 years to actress Barbara Eden (Jeanie on "I Dream of Jeanie". Eden bore a striking resemblance to Francine York, who starred as "Sabrina" in "The Doll Squad".)

Hey! My eyes are up here sister! Hey! My eyes are up here sister!

Francine York had the distinct honor of starring opposite Jerry Lewis in 5 movies, and also starred in various fims starring Marlon Brando, David Niven, and Elvis among others. A strikingly attractive lady, Ms. York achieved a level of notoriety for appearing in a brief nude scene in the movie "Cannon for Cordoba". (Unfortunately, Ms York keeps her clothes on in "Doll Squad" a loss for all considered, most of all your reviewer.) Ms. York has kept active, appearing mostly in television.

The late Tura Santana was a favorite of nudie filmmaker Russ Meyer, appearing in his epic, "Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!". After making The Doll Squad in 1973, Satana was shot by a former lover. She recovered and worked at various jobs off and on, until returning to the silver screen in roles in various low-budget films.

Ted V. Mikels was the mastermind behind "The Doll Squad" and numerous other "Z-Movies". During his grade school years, he was an amateur photographer who developed his own film in his bathtub.[1] While in eighth grade, he was awarded his first acting role in a film that was to star William Powell, but World War II forced the cancellation of the production. By the age of fifteen, he was a regular stage performer, and developed an interest in filmmaking when he attempted to film his performances. One of the more entertaining parts of the DVD presentation of The Doll Squad is the voice over track of Mikels talking about the filming of the movie.

This film may have been the inspiration for the Charlie's Angels television series. Aaron Spelling, who later produced the television series, was invited to the premiere of this movie, and the lead member of the squad was named Sabrina, just as in Charlie's Angels.

Quentin Tarantino has cited the film as an influence on his Deadly Viper Assassination Squad in his film Kill Bill.

The movie was also released under the title: "Seduce and Destroy".

Some of the night scenes in the film were filmed in the front yard of Mikel's home.
